 2016 Preview 


       North Jackson completed the 2015 season with a 7-5 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region seven, the Chiefs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. North Jackson reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Brooks by a score of 50-21.

       The Chiefs had some tough luck last season as three of their five losses were by less than eight points.

       Since 2010, North Jackson has gone a combined 47-24. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, North Jackson has gone a combined 217-79. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 4A and 15th in the AHSAA. The Chiefs have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time.

       The Chiefs are led by head coach Mark Rose who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 99-24 over the past ten seasons at North Jackson. Under his direction the Chiefs have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times. They have won seven region crowns with Coach Rose.

       Coach Rose's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen season stands at 153-61 (71.5%). His 153 wins rank 17th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Rose's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times and won nine region championships.

       The North Jackson Chiefs will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2016 season. The Chiefs have one of the toughest schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 59-40 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 4A and 42nd in the AHSAA.

       Region seven will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. The Chiefs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season.

       The Chiefs open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Cullman on Friday, August 26 at Woodard Stadium. Last year the Cullman Bearcats finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 6A region eight. The Bearcats lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Clay-Chalkville by a score of 48-14.

       North Jackson and Cullman have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Chiefs have a 1-3-0 record against the Bearcats. They last met in 2003 with Cullman winning by a score of 30-0.

       North Jackson returns 4A All-State Senior offensive lineman Cody Hendrix. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Chiefs also return Senior running back Omar Brown. He was named to the second team. The Chiefs also return Senior athlete Trey Harris. He was named to the honorable mention team.
